Some Adventure

High rope Traversing is a popular adventure sport. This can be done for crossing a river.A rope is tied horizontally between two anchoring points at both the river banks. This makes it easy for a person to cross the river without getting wet.
In high rope traversing, the person is strapped into the harness and the harness is attached to the rope which will take him or her to the other side.
On our recent visit to Thenmala , I could cross a small lake. Some photos are here.
Now bitten by the adventure bug, would like to try Rock climbing, Scuba diving, para gliding and Bungee jumping.

Punalur Bridge

The suspension bridge across the Kallada River in Punalur is one of the two of its kind existing in India. The other one is in Calcutta. It is 400 ft. long. As this bridge erected in 1877 is found to be not strong enough to cope with the increased traffic,a new concrete bridge was constructed near by.

The Suspension Bridge is now of archaeological interest only. Its
construction was commenced in 1871-72 and completed in 1877-78 AD. The work was supervised by Henry an engineer from Scotland.

"Kannara Palam" is another monument of British engineering technology. It is situated at Kazhuthuruthi on the Kollam shenkottai rail line. The bride has 13 arches and was built using Surki instead of concrete. Even after 100 years of its construction, the bridge shows no signs of deterioration.

At present this rail route is undergoing gauge conversion.
