Padu Tirupati

P

Padu Tirupati (East Tirupati) is a small temple in Karkala in Karnataka. History of the temple dates back to 14th century. The temple is popularly known as Sri Venkata Ramana temple and belongs to the Gowda Saraswatha community.Presiding deity of the temple is Lord Srinivasa and Lord Venkataramana is called Utsava Deity.  Daily Pujas offered here are same as at Tirupati.Hence it is called Padu Tirupati

Earlier the "Kanikka" recieved by the temple was taken to Tirupati periodically, the last one being in 1970. Now it has become symbolic.Once a year in a grand and ceremonious procession Lord Srinivasa and Lord Venkatramana are taken to the eastern side of the town in  golden palanquins for Vanabhojana which literally means an outing to the forest.

Temple resembled an ancestral house. There are houses of Gowda saraswatha community all around. A beautiful temple pond is an added attraction. There is a nice "Kulappura" near the pond.
